The Secretary General of the PCP, Paulo Raimundo, considered this Friday in Porto “unthinkable” and a “trick” the government’s proposals, presented in meetings with representatives of the security forces and teachers, to increase salaries.
In a speech concluding the presentation of the PKP’s Commitments for the European Parliament elections, the communist leader referred to the meetings that took place on Thursday with the security forces and this Friday with the various teachers’ unions, to emphasize that the warnings he had made in recent months had been justified .
“You shouldn’t make promises and then, when they reach the government, look for all the excuses for not keeping the promises they make now,” said Paulo Raimundo, repeating the phrase “said in January of this year.”
Given exactly what he said was happening, the communist leader insisted that “the last few hours have become crystal clear regarding this situation.”
“The current Minister of Accounts of Brussels [Joaquim Sarmento] accuses previous minister of clear scores with Brussels [Fernando Medina] skip the count. The current Minister of Accounts of Brussels is looking for excuses for not keeping his promises,” the communist leader noted.
And he continued: “Look at the unthinkable proposals made to the security forces yesterday. [quinta-feira]Look at this trick today for teachers who, in exchange for recognition of their seniority in the future, want to receive acquired rights.”
“This is a maneuver that continues,” he stressed, referring to the warnings that he said he made “from the beginning of the year until the last day of the election campaign.”
He then spoke of a manifesto to change justice in Portugal: “Today we know 50 individuals with great responsibility and varied influence, who have carried and continue to bear great public and even governmental responsibility, who have come to demand changes in the justice system.”
“Changes are necessary, the problem is that time has already been lost (…), better late than never, but we do not have to achieve what we have,” criticized Paulo Raimundo, assuring the PCP’s commitment to “improvements in Justice, so that it serves everyone.”
