At the request of Chega and the Liberal Initiative, National Defense Minister Nuno Melo will be heard in parliament on Wednesday on the issue of compulsory military service as an alternative punishment for young people who have committed petty crimes.
According to the official website of the Assembly of the Republic on the Internet, the hearing of centrist Nuno Melo will take place after the plenary session, at 18:00.
These requests were presented and unanimously approved by members of the parliamentary defense committee after Nuno Melo made a statement on April 27 at the 13th World University of Europe in Aveiro that compulsory military service could be an alternative to young people who commit petty crimes. rather than being placed in institutions that “in most cases function for life only as a school for crime.”
