The government said Tuesday it was “ready to implement” the Social Cohesion Agreement, but Prime Minister Luis Montenegro admitted he had added “new measures” to the document signed last year.
At the Economic and Social Council in Belém, where he met the social partners for the first time, the Chief Executive highlighted the “very positive atmosphere” of the meeting, where he assured that the government is “predisposed to listen to proposals for greater economic growth.”
On the union side, the CGTP said it had “clearly expressed concerns” about the government program, with Secretary General Thiago Oliveira noting that the document “perpetuates instability.” The UGT stressed its “satisfaction that there is a desire to improve” the agreement, union leader Mario Mouran said. On the executive side, the CIP agreed to include a tax exemption in the so-called 15th month, but President Armindo Monteiro said it was “important that there is no compromise agreement” when it comes to revenue.
