Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento guaranteed this Thursday in Parliament that the government intends to continue reducing IRS rates over the next few years, thereby expanding the proposal put forward for this year.
“We will strive to continue reducing IRS rates in the coming years,” Miranda Sarmento told the Committee on Budget, Finance and Public Administration (COFPA), where he is hearing on Chegi’s request for an IRS cut.
In response to Chegi MP Rui Afonso, who accused the government of presenting a “hoax” to the Portuguese when announcing the proposal, the government official stressed that the estimated impact of the IRS rate cut, IRS Jovem and the exemption from productivity bonuses for the entire legislature is three billion Euro.
