More than two dozen men and women took part in the disturbance late Wednesday afternoon at Plaza 5 de Autubro in Caldas da Rainha, with the PSP initially alerted to a fight involving firearms.
When PSP officers arrived on scene, the culprits were no longer found, but agents did find a hammer hidden in a flower box, a cell phone on the floor (belonging to one of the men involved in the dispute) and a knife with an approximately 23 cm blade falling to the ground in one of the arteries , surrounding the area. All objects were confiscated.
A witness told PSP that he saw a car stop in the square and several men get out, one of whom was armed with a shotgun. Using the car’s details, the police discovered that the group had traveled to Caldas da Rainha from the city of Leiria to carry out a “calculation”.
Moments later, PSP located two members taking refuge in a commercial establishment in fear of being attacked. They were identified and told police that they were with two friends and that they “suddenly” saw a group of eight men threatening them with an iron and fled, with the attackers also throwing a hammer. One of these men was wearing a balaclava (full hat) which was taken.
