The CDU is campaigning for Europeans in 11 constituencies. Paulo Raimundo will be present at most events

The CDU’s European election campaign will take place in 11 of mainland Portugal’s 18 constituencies, with a focus on Lisbon, Setúbal and Porto, and will include the participation of the PCP secretary general in most major events.

According to the campaign roadmap for the leader of the CDU list in the European elections, published this Thursday, João Oliveira will take initiatives in the Lisbon constituency on six of the 12 official campaign days. The candidate will be in Setubal for three days and two in Porto.

These are the three constituencies in which the HDZ managed to elect deputies in the last legislative elections: two from Lisbon (Paulo Raimundo and António Filipe), one from Setúbal (Paula Santos) and one from Porto (Alfredo Maia).

In addition to these districts, the CDU caravan will also pass through Leiria, Aveiro, Beja, Faro, Évora, Santarem, Braga and Coimbra, multiplying in contacts with the population, rallies and rallies.

The HDZ will begin its official election campaign on Monday in the Lisbon district with contacts with the population of Amadora and two public sessions in the capital.

After spending Wednesday in the Leiria and Aveiro regions, which includes a visit to the National Museum of Resistance and Freedom in Peniche, the caravan heads south with stops in Setúbal and a rally in Beja on Thursday. Friday will be dedicated to the Faro region, with stops in Ollhan, Vila Real de Santo António and Faro.

The campaign returns to the Lisbon area on Saturday with a parade and rally in the Parque des Nations, and on Sunday in Setúbal for another rally.

The second week of the campaign begins again in the Lisbon district with a visit to a book fair, followed by a night rally in Alpiars, Santarem district. Community contacts are planned for Tuesday in Loures and a lunch with women in Casa do Alentejo in Lisbon, ending the day with a rally in Évora.

Only on Wednesday of the second week does the CDU caravan travel to the north of the country, where the day is dedicated to the areas of Porto and Braga, which includes a visit to a quarry in Penafiel, a parade in Guimarães and a rally in Braga. .

Much of Thursday will be devoted to the Porto area – a parade and a visit to the old PIDE headquarters – but will end with a rally in Coimbra. Afterwards, the CDU caravan returns to the Lisbon and Setúbal areas to end the campaign with two rallies in Barreiro and Lisbon and a rally in Seixal.

The party’s general secretary, Paulo Raimundo, will be present at most major events and will intensify his participation in the final phase of the election campaign, a PCP source said.

For now, he plans to attend a public meeting in Lisbon on Tuesday and join Joao Oliveira again at a rally in Beja on Thursday. On Saturday, the communist leader will attend a parade and rally in the Parc des Nations in Lisbon.

In the last European elections in 2019, the CDU came fourth with 6.88% of the vote and the election of two MEPs.

In these elections, João Oliveira has already expressed confidence in the strengthening of the CDU, but refused to set “overly optimistic goals”, such as the return of the three MEPs whom the coalition managed to elect in 2014.

The CDU is going into these elections with João Oliveira at the top of the list, with current MEPs Sandra Pereira and João Pimenta Lopes in second and third places.
