PAN Madeira considers the representative’s decision “the most logical”

The PAN deputy elected in Sunday’s regional elections in Madeira, Monica Freitas, considered the decision of the representative of the Republic to nominate Miguel Albuquerque (PSD) to form the government “the most logical” and capable of making the program and budget viable.

“Since this agreement between the PSD and the SDS and the PSD is the party that actually received the most votes, this seems to us the most logical solution, given that no other government decision has been presented that would have the same force,” said PAN spokesman in Madeira to Lusa agency.

Mónica Freitas commented on the decision announced on Tuesday by the representative of the Republic, Ireneu Barreto, following the speech of the representatives of the seven parties with the elected representatives in the regional elections last Sunday, that he will nominate Miguel Albuquerque (PSD) for the presidency. The regional government believes that the joint decision of the PS and JPP “has no chance of success.”

For the re-elected deputy, the main thing is to be able to form a government and work “as quickly as possible on the budget and guarantee some stability to the region,” which in recent months has lived in a situation of “some instability and, given the entire political situation in the country, now is the time to be responsible, thoughtful and work for the benefit of the population.”

Monica Freitas admitted that other party forces have also contacted PAN, recalling that she has always said that they are ready for dialogue and conversation with everyone.

“I think that since we are political forces elected by the population, we have a duty and responsibility to be open to dialogue and achieve mutual understanding and consensus, taking into account the well-being of the population,” he emphasized. .

Regarding the PSD, he stressed that the PAN has always stated that “under the leadership of Miguel Albuquerque” there will be no agreement like the one noted in the Legislature that ended.

“But we will also not be those who cause instability and, in a responsible manner, we will evaluate, in accordance with our principles and our values, the government program and budget presented and, if they are within those that are the guiding principles PAN. , for the sake of the well-being of the population, it is not because of us that this will be made impossible,” he assured.

Mónica Freitas stressed that this position would be the same one that PAN would have taken if the solution chosen by the government had been different, namely the one presented by the PS/JPP, which signed the agreement of understanding as an alternative.

“Regardless of who the party that formed the government was, as long as it has the legitimacy to do so, we will evaluate the program and budget presented in any way, and as long as they are within the lines of the PAN and there is nothing that could would go against the principles of the party, we would also make them viable,” he emphasized.

Monica Freitas concluded that the elected parties “work for the benefit of the population, and it is with this in mind that everyone must act accordingly.”

Early elections in Madeira took place on Sunday, eight months after the last regional elections, after the President of the Republic dissolved Madeira’s parliament following the political crisis provoked in January when the leader of the regional government (PSD/CDU-PP), Miguel Albuquerque, was named as a defendant in a trial that is investigating suspicions of corruption.

Miguel Albuquerque’s PSD (President of the Madeira Executive since 2015) won again in the regional legislatures and elected 19 deputies, but failed to elect the 24 needed to secure an absolute majority.

This was followed by the PS with 11 MPs, the JPP which rose to nine, Chega with four, the CDS-PP with two and the IL and PAN each electing one representative.
