MAI is concerned about hate crimes and wants to conduct research on this phenomenon

This Wednesday, the Minister of the Interior expressed concern about the increase in hate crimes in Portugal, adding that the police are being trained in this area and that research needs to be carried out to understand the phenomenon.

“Hate crimes and incitement to violence are a type of crime that should concern everyone, it is a heinous crime,” Margarida Blasco told the parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, noting that statistics show there is an increase practices of these crimes.

The minister was heard in Parliament at the request of the Bloc de Esquerda and the PCP about hate crimes in Portuguese society, with the two parties wanting to know what measures are being taken by the security forces to prevent the occurrence of these crimes. , identify and hold their authors accountable.
