Enough wants the European Parliament to control the use of funds

MEPs elected by Chega will propose that the European Parliament monitor the use of territorial cohesion funds, said the president, who called on the government to disclose the nationality and ethnicity of suspects in crime reports.

“We have cohesion funds that are working very poorly in Portugal and that is the government’s problem,” said Andre Ventura, noting that “one of the first measures” of Chegi MEPs will be to propose that “the European Parliament controls these countries.” who do not implement cohesion means.”

The Chegi leader noted that this check could be carried out “through a possible parliamentary commission or a standing commission.”

“I think that the European Parliament now has monitoring mechanisms, but they are weak,” he said.

Andre Ventura spoke to journalists in Estremoz, Évora district, during the campaign for the party’s candidates for the June 9 European elections.

The Chegi leader took advantage of the presence of very few people on the street at lunchtime to talk about desertification and emphasize that “in Europe, large urban metropolises are being created, where the entire population is practically concentrated, and the rest of the country has been forgotten.”

“Portugal seems to have forgotten the interior of the country,” he criticized, noting that one of the functions of those elected to the European Parliament “is to draw attention to the fact that cohesion funds are not applied and implemented properly.” “.

Noting that “the last PS and PSD governments did not use most of the funds,” Ventura emphasized that “the money that goes to countries should be used effectively by countries, not by governments, it should be used effectively because governments are committed to countries.”

President Chegi also considered that Portugal is a country of “two or three speeds”, which “has always given priority to the coast to the detriment of the interior, which is increasingly abandoned.”

And he also took the opportunity to criticize the general secretary of the PS: “Pedro Nuno Santos really likes to use the motto of the whole of Portugal, he should come here inland to see that internal Portugal is a forgotten, abandoned Portugal. , and I liked what he was doing and not just going on political shows with Dr. Martha Temido.”

On this occasion, Andre Ventura also accused the government of “hiding data” about crimes committed in Portugal and left an appeal: “If you have so much courage and confidence that foreigners do not commit new crimes, do yourself a favor, open up the data and allow police to record the nationality and ethnicity of the criminals.”

“Open the data, let’s take a look and let the country verify the nationality of the criminals who operate in Portugal. This is a simple challenge to the transparency of a government that says it wants transparency,” he challenged.

On the occasion, President Chegi was also asked about an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers taking place this Thursday and Friday to prepare for the July summit, with discussions dominated by restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western weapons.

“Putin should know that when he attacks another country, he suffers consequences on his own territory. […] Europe can’t kneel or hug […]“If to defeat Russia it is necessary to attack targets inside Russia with weapons supplied by the European Union, then this is a consequence of those who started the war in an unpredictable way,” he said.

Regarding the criticism of the head of the BE list, Katarina Martins, who this Thursday accused the far right of being “in the service” of the Russian head of state, Ventura retorted that the former leader of the bloc “systematically sided with the “wrong forces in history” and “ hand in hand with the worst regimes in the world” such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and Cuba. And he emphasized that Chega is on the side of Ukraine and condemned Russia.

“I think that Katharina Martins in this silent case was the poetess,” he stated.

In Portugal, the European elections will take place on June 9, and 17 parties and coalitions will take part in them: AD, PS, Chega, IL, BE, CDU, Livre, PAN, ADN, MAS, Ergue-te, Nova Direita, Volt Portugal. , RIR, We the Citizens, MPT and PTP. 21 deputies will be elected.
