BE advocates rapid regularization of immigrants through mission structure

BE coordinator Mariana Mortagua defended this Friday the need for the government to create a “mission structure” for the rapid regularization of immigrants in Portugal, given the crisis at the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA).

“There is only one possible answer: to streamline all upcoming processes as quickly as possible, and for this AIMA must be able to function faster and more competently. We know that there was a problem during its formation. , we know that workers are exhausted, they suffer from the disorganization of the organization itself, and therefore we propose a mission structure so that all current processes can be streamlined,” said Mariana Mortagua.

The BE leader commented on the Expresso newspaper’s news that about 100 employees of the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) were asked to leave the agency on the sidelines of the European elections campaign in the Bolhao market. , in Porto, surrounded by the head of the list, Catarina Martins.

Mortagua rejected the idea that suspending residence permits for immigrants is a solution, arguing that immigrants come to Portugal “because there are jobs there” and there are industries that need these citizens, from agriculture to tourism.

“If we suspend the issuance of residence permits, it means that there will be more undocumented immigrants, that is, illegal immigrants, because they will continue to arrive,” he said.

The same decision was defended by Katharina Martins, who recalled that this problem is “not new”, since when the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) was abolished, “it already had 370 thousand pending cases.”

At European level, on the day it was reported that the eurozone’s inflation rate had risen to 2.6% in May, the bloc’s candidate cited the need to lower European Central Bank (ECB) interest rates and with it household payments. .

“BE is fighting so that through the Caixa Geral de Depósitos it is possible to reduce interest rates, thereby reducing installment payments. Many people are still paying double the premium they paid, they cannot do this as prices continue to rise,” he warned. .

From the point of view of the blocker, who recalled that “banks make huge profits,” European standards allow interest rates to be reduced through state-owned banks.

After visiting several stalls in the Mercado do Bolhão, Catarina Martins returned to Porto, where she was born, handed out leaflets and was greeted by some saleswomen with words of encouragement and wishes to have a “woman from the North” in the European Parliament.
