PS asks government about continuity of anti-harassment strategy

This Monday, the PS asked the Minister of Education about the continuity of the strategy for preventing sexual, moral and professional harassment in higher education developed by the previous socialist government.

In a question to the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation Fernando Alexandra, signed by PS deputies led by Elsa Pais, the Socialists question the justification of the current executive director for canceling the order of the previous minister responsible for higher education, Elvira Fortunato. create a commission to develop a strategy to prevent harassment in higher education institutions.

According to the socialists, the new commission was created on the basis of a new order, “keeping everything the same” as the previous one.

“Would it not be more fruitful to continue the work already begun by the Socialist Party, ensuring that higher education institutions are promoted as spaces of freedom incompatible with situations of moral and sexual oppression?” they ask.

MPs want to know whether there will be continuity in the “set of prevention and control strategies for sexual, moral and labor harassment that are being developed in more than 80% of public and private institutions,” such as “the adoption of codes of conduct.” and best practices”, “simplifying harassment reporting channels using flexible impartial assessment mechanisms” and others.

The CoP also asks the government about the timeline for developing a harassment prevention strategy.
