A Honda Civic, stolen a few days earlier in Alverque, was spotted by PSP patrol at 11:25 on Monday along Vila Franca de Xira. After checking the license plate, it was confirmed that it had been confiscated, and an order was given to stop the car in which a married couple was traveling – he, 25, driving, and she, 21, as a passenger.
An hour of crazy pursuit ensued, during which the couple covered 150 km, escaping from the PSP and the GNR. They even ran over a PSP agent on the A1 highway, causing him knee and foot injuries. They were eventually apprehended by the PSP at 12:25 on the Vasco da Gama Bridge towards Lisbon.
After being ordered to stop at Vila Franca de, he entered the Marateca highway towards Lisbon and was stopped only on his second passage over the bridge deck.
They face charges of theft, disobedience and dangerous driving. They could also be charged with attempted murder by the PSP.
