Tangier Correa says Chega can have a ‘great result’ even if he doesn’t win

The head of Chegi’s list in the European Parliament, Antonio Tangier Correa, predicted this Wednesday an “excellent result” for his party in Sunday’s elections, although it did not win them, a goal set by the leader.

“I think that if we elect four MEPs, this is already a big victory for Chegi, and we will not find ourselves below the legislative percentage. Now it is clear that we would like a fifth,” he said, dedramatizing: “If it works, if not , then no, it gave.”

On Monday, the head of the “Change Like Europeans” list set a goal of electing five MEPs and said that if the party achieves a result lower than in the legislative elections, it will be below its expectations.

Asked about the leader’s goal of becoming the party with the most votes in Sunday’s European elections, Antonio Tangier Correa said Chega “has the goal of winning the election, but if she doesn’t win the election, she can achieve a superior result.” “.

“President Andre Aventura is half my age, so he has his whole life ahead of him, he can make more dynamic forecasts. I make less dynamic forecasts, more tired of life,” he said.

The candidate spoke to reporters at the start of a street rally in Santa Maria da Feira, Aveiro district.

António Tangier Correa considered that “this election is atypical” and said that he does not have a “crystal ball.”

“It is difficult to know how this will affect the final results, and it is very difficult to predict how the d’Hondt method will perform later at the highest levels of voting. The D’Hondt method is starting to take effect, which makes it especially difficult to predict election results,” he noted, saying that he was not “completely confident in this or that figure.”

As for abstentions, which are usually very high in European elections, list leader Chegi was convinced that “it will decline” and said that the increase in the number of voters who voted in advance “is an extremely important data.”

Asked whether Chega’s campaign could help reduce voting abstention, Tangier Correa replied: “Absolutely. Our campaign is essentially as dynamic as our president.”

When asked if he should not be as dynamic as the candidate, the former ambassador replied that Andre Ventura is “more dynamic” and “the more dynamic the better.”

On this occasion, the head of the Chegi list also said that he is in favor of having a European Commissioner for Defense in the next legislature.

“I agree with this, I even agree that there should be coordination across the Armed Forces of different countries, but not a commissioner with executive powers, but with coordination powers,” he said.

And he argued that “the defense commissioner will not impose decisions on countries, he will coordinate actions.”

“We have always advocated the coordination of the various armed forces of sovereign countries. I think that the appointment of a defense commissioner makes sense in this,” he emphasized.

On this short street in Santa Maria da Feira, where the streets are practically deserted, chants such as “The Ambassador will win”, “Chega, Chega”, “Long live Ventura” and “Long live Tangier” were heard, to which the candidate responded : “Long live I.”
