The President of the Prison Chiefs’ Union this Wednesday expressed his receptivity to the proposal to increase the risk premium presented by the government, but defended “accelerating the calendar” for the phased payment of these amounts.
“We are in favor of agreement and increase (salaries) in the current circumstances and contexts. We are not irreducible and we have no dogmas,” Herminio Barradas told reporters at the end of a joint meeting of prison guards’ unions with the justice minister. , Rita Alarcao Judice.
According to Herminio Barradas, there is no point in “abandoning” the proposal, which represents “an estimate of €4,200 at the end of 2026”, given that the government’s proposal is to increase the premium by €200 next July. plus 50 euros in January 2025 and another 50 euros in 2026.
Faced with the proposal presented this Wednesday by the Minister of Justice, which largely coincides with the proposal of the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) published on Tuesday, Herminio Barradas admits that his “scale” will “never be” equal to that provided by the Judicial Police (PJ) .
This union leader stressed that his union was “fully aware of the financial and budgetary constraints” and that it was not because of this union structure that prison guards would no longer “assess” the premium.
Herminio Barradas, however, advocates accelerating the schedule planned for the increase in the risk premium, suggesting that the increase be spread across quarters.
This negotiating position of the Union of Chief Prison Guards in the face of the MAI/MJ proposal for a risk premium differs from the position taken by the National Union of Prison Guards (SNCGP), which, through its leader Frederico Morais, said that there was already “no agreement” and 300 euros separate the government’s proposal from what the police and SNCGP are demanding.
Negotiations at the Ministry of Justice continue: the minister is receiving a delegation from the Union of Judicial Workers (SFJ), which intends to discuss, among other things, issues of procedural compensation for subsidies.
