A 60-year-old woman was caught living among rubbish and with 40 other animals in her home in Vale de Romeiro, in Castelo Branco. Animals include dogs, cats, chickens and sheep.
In addition to the animals, authorities found more than half a meter of trash on the first floor of the house. The two-story residence with three bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen was uninhabitable.
A neighbor raised the alarm after a woman fell outside her home.
When asked by doctors about old wounds on her legs and arms, the woman admitted that they were caused by animals that were in her home. The Department of State and PSP were contacted.
Landlords living in France have already sued the woman for late rent.
