The City Council of Ponta Delgada will allocate 1200 euros to families with children under 1 year old

The City Council of Ponta Delgada in the Azores will provide financial support of up to 1,200 euros to families living in the municipality with children under the age of one, the mayor of the municipality announced on Wednesday.

The measure is part of the municipality’s birth support program, a draft ordinance of which was approved at a regular city council meeting this Wednesday, according to the municipality of San Miguel Island in a press release sent to newsrooms.

The draft regulation on the municipal birth support program will be presented to the next municipal meeting on February 28.

In practice, the program guarantees “reimbursement for goods, products or services deemed necessary for the development of children under one year of age”, such as “medical consultations and treatments, medicines, vaccinations, bibs, bottles, adapted milk”. , food for feeding, bath, baby cot, stroller and much more,” explains the municipality.

Cited in the same press release, the mayor of Ponta Delgada, Pedro Nascimento Cabral (PSD), stated that this was “another family and childhood support policy in the municipality.”

This measure in this case “aims specifically to counter the trend of population aging and contributes to the increase in the birth rate in Ponta Delgada,” he added.

The mayor also emphasized that this measure reflects the “genuine concern of the city council for the rejuvenation of the population of Ponta Delgada.”

Pedro Nascimento Cabral stressed that this measure also aims to improve the county’s business structure.

“The implementation of the Fertility Support Program also entails an important incentive to increase local business activity, since the purchase of goods and products, the cost of which can be reimbursed by the municipality, must be carried out in Ponta Delgada stores, which are not located in shopping centers.” he explained.

According to the regulation, the allocation of financial support will be determined according to the gross monthly income of the applicants, which must be equal to or less than 2,250 euros in the case of an individual application, or equal to or less than 4,300 euros. in the case of a deal with the joint candidacy of the parents.

“This benefit, determined by the municipality, covers all expenses incurred between 90 days before the birth of the child and the date when he turns 12 months old,” said Pedro Nascimento Cabral.

The mayor also felt that the existence of this measure was all the more important when “Ponta Delgada was excluded from the group of municipalities covered by the Nascer Mais program of the regional government, which also determines the financial support for births in the region.” .

The Mayor of Ponta Delgada explained that financial support “can only be given once to the same child” and that “those households that receive public financial support of an equal nature”, namely the family allowance for children and young people provided social security systems. .
