The National Electoral Commission has received two reports regarding statements made by the head of the Socialist Party list for the European elections, Marta Temido.
The former health minister’s statements were made after the vote in Lisbon, at the Camões Lyceum.
Read the statement:
“This commission has received two reports regarding statements made by Socialist Party (PS) candidate Marta Temido. These reports are the result of viewing and reading several reports regarding her trip to the polling station.
The statements made refer to a competing candidate for the election and provide considerations in this regard, namely the following: “the better our results, the better protected the Portuguese and Europeans will be“.
As such, such statements may interfere with the process of shaping the will of voters and thus fall within the scope of the election day propaganda ban.
Taking into account the above, the Commission decides to order the media to stop disseminating such statements.”
