“The playing time of the party is over, this is extremely important, at this moment it is extremely important that the Government approves the Program and that we approve the budget by July, otherwise this year we will run out of budget, and this is not a joke,” said Miguel Albuquerque ahead of the visit renewable energy project in the Ribeira Brava Business Park.
The President of the Regional Government (PSD), who took office on Thursday, was asked about the political situation in the region and the possible outcome of the government program that will be discussed and voted on next week in the Madeira Parliament.
If the JPP votes against the document, and based on the negative votes already announced by the PS and Chega, the government program will be rejected.
“We are currently available and negotiating with all parties and we are ready to do so. We are a responsible party, we must know how to interpret the will of the Madeirans, and the will of the Madeirans was very clear,” he said. without indicating current conversations.
“The main thing at the moment is the understanding and responsibility of each party force,” emphasized the President of the Madeira Executive, insisting that “a wide range of decisions must be taken that are not entirely compatible with the absence of a government.”
The SDP won the expected regional elections on May 26 with 19 deputies elected, leaving it five terms short of achieving an absolute majority.
The PS elected 11 deputies, the AKP nine, Chega four and SDS-PP two, while IL and PAN elected one deputy each.
The SDP signed a parliamentary agreement with the centrists after the elections, but still did not win an absolute majority.
The early elections in Madeira came eight months after the previous regional legislative elections, after the President of the Republic dissolved Madeira’s parliament following a political crisis triggered in January when Social Democrat Miguel Albuquerque was appointed president of the executive. accused in a case of alleged corruption.
The PS and JPP announced an agreement to remove the PSD from power (despite the fact that they also did not receive an absolute majority), but Albuquerque was again appointed head of the regional government.
