Nikita Tsitsagi, a Russian journalist, was killed in a drone strike in eastern Ukraine as he prepared to report. The attack took place in the area of the St. Nicholas Monastery near Vugledar, a city that has been the scene of fierce fighting for several months.
“Our correspondent Nikita Tsitsagi died as a result of an attack by a Ukrainian army drone,” Novosti.Ru reported on its Telegram channel.
The Russian journalist’s death comes after a Russian state television journalist was killed and another wounded in a Ukrainian drone attack on Thursday in Golmovsky, a Russian-controlled village near the front line in the eastern Donetsk region.
The Russian Foreign Ministry accused Ukraine of deliberately attacking journalists.
The news of these attacks and deaths came to light on the day that the first Ukraine Peace Summit, without Russia’s participation, would end in Switzerland.
The purpose of the conference, organized by the Swiss Confederation at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, is to “stimulate a future peace process” based on “the debates that have taken place in recent months, namely the Ukrainian peace and other peace proposals based on the Charter UN and fundamental principles of international law”.
