The EU Council officially approved the Nature Recovery Act

This Monday in Luxembourg, European Union (EU) environment ministers gave final approval to the Law for the Recovery of Nature (LRN), which aims to restore 30% of habitats in poor condition by 2030.

The LRN, an important part of the European Environment Pact, has already been approved by the European Parliament and today received the final green light from the EU Council of Environment Ministers, with 20 member states, including Portugal, voting in favor and six against. and one abstained.

The Nature Recovery Act requires all EU countries to submit and adopt a National Recovery Plan with specific targets that will ensure the restoration of at least 30% of terrestrial, coastal and marine habitats and freshwater in a degraded state. conservation by 2030, 60% by 2040 and 90% by 2050.
