Nuno Morna resigns as coordinator of the Liberal Initiative in Madeira

Liberal Nuno Morna announced on Sunday to the National Council of the Liberal Initiative that he had resigned as coordinator of the Local Coordination Group of Madeira (GCL), believing that the time had come for renewal and the creation of new strategies.

In a message sent to the party’s national structure, which was accessed by Lusa today, Nuno Morna, the party’s only regional MP, says that “the decision was taken deliberately, consciously and calmly” and took into account what he heard from several people who you trust completely, and your family.

“Recently we have been experiencing great political instability at the national and regional level. Without foreseeing what may happen in the future of the country and region, I believe that this is the ideal moment to renew the Territorial Core. Madeira to develop a new strategy to make Madeira more and more liberal. Based on this feeling, I will not be a candidate and will not be part of any list,” he says.

Nuno Morna states that, in accordance with the General Provisions of the Liberal Initiative (IL) cores, the coordinator must be replaced by a deputy coordinator.

“It turns out that the Deputy Coordinator of the GCL, Francisco Costa, has informed us that he does not intend to continue his mandate in this GCL, and it would be illogical for me to appoint a holder, given that the goal is to renew the Territorial Core,” see.

Nuno Morna quotes an article from the statutes to explain the consequences of these positions: “The loss of a quorum in the GCL without the possibility of its replacement by deputies, as well as the resignation of its originally elected coordinator and deputy coordinator, imply the resignation of the GCL, which must be immediately communicated to the members of the Center.”

In this context, “it is necessary to convene an electoral plenary session to elect a new Grand Duchy of Lithuania, while the outgoing Grand Duchy of Lithuania remains under current management under the leadership of the Executive Committee.”

Therefore, Nuno Morna emphasizes, the next step will be to convene an electoral plenary meeting so that candidates and proposals can be submitted for approval by the Center.

“I am determined to continue to cooperate with the party and to continue our motto of “making a difference” in the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira until the end of the Legislative Assembly as the only member of the Liberal Initiative,” he concluded.

Nuno Morna was re-elected in May to the regional legislatures of Madeira and took one of the 47 seats in the Legislative Assembly. He received 2.56% of the votes.

Following early legislative elections, seven parties gained representation in the Madeira parliament: PSD (19 deputies), PS (11), PNP (nine), Chega (four), SDS-PP (two), IL (one) and PAN (one ).

The regional government, led by Social Democrat Miguel Albuquerque, took office on June 6 but now faces the possibility of failure of the government program, which will be discussed from Tuesday to Thursday. PS, JPP and Chega (24 seats in total, equivalent to an absolute majority) have already announced their vote against the document.

Madeira’s early May elections came eight months after the last regional legislative elections, after the President of the Republic dissolved the Madeira Parliament following a political crisis triggered in January when the leader of the regional government (then PSD/SDS-PP) was named defendant in a process that is investigating suspicions of corruption.
