The Prime Minister said this Wednesday that the government is ready to consider, with the participation of the Assembly of the Republic, changes in the field of criminal justice, referring to areas such as the fight against violations of judicial secrecy or wiretapping.
During a two-week debate with the prime minister, PSD parliament leader Hugo Soares said his bench was available to “deepen the so-called justice reform” and consider issues relating to rights, freedoms and guarantees, and asked the leader’s opinion from parliament. government.
In his response, Luis Montenegro recalled that in 2007 he followed the so-called pact of justice as a deputy.
“I would like to confirm that the goals of the legislator in such areas as detention outside the act of committing a crime, combating violations of judicial secrecy, the use of telephone interrogations as an additional and not exclusive means of proof, did not achieve the goal. They were fully accepted in practice,” – Montenegro admitted.
The prime minister said that in these areas “there are issues that concern everyone”, without ever directly referring to the disclosure of non-criminal wiretaps involving former Prime Minister Antonio Costa as part of the so-called “Operation Influencer” .
“If Portuguese society and the Assembly of the Republic are willing to consider changes in criminal justice, the government will naturally be available and will not cease to exist with the participation of the Assembly of the Republic,” he said.
