Navy carries out 90-hour mission to track Russian spy ships

Two ocean patrol ships of the Portuguese Navy on Friday completed a 90-hour mission to escort Russian vessels crossing Portuguese territorial waters. In the first case, the Figueira da Foz CHP closely monitored “General Skobelev” and “Academician Ioffe” in the exclusive economic zone of the continent. Almost at the same time, the NRP Sines was closely monitoring the tug Nikolai Chiker as it passed through the Azores Exclusive Economic Zone.

The operation was monitored by the Maritime Operations Center (KOMAR), which, according to the Navy, “maintains constant situational awareness of Russian ships” and that these actions “guarantee the defense and security of national maritime spaces.”
