There are many Portuguese people wearing masks who are involved in the animation. There are real crowds these days who want to see revelers up close. Torres Vedras expects more than half a million visitors in the carnival parade in the year that marks 100 years of tradition. In other places such as Loures, Ovar, Estarreja, Mealada, Loule or Sesimbra, more than a hundred thousand people are expected. In Madeira, hotel occupancy is about 80%, with a party that takes place from 15 to 26. Almost a week before the start of the carnival, various groups, troupes and samba schools work tirelessly creating floats and costumes. The carnival is already in motion and this Saturday the Royal Embassy of the Torres Vedras Carnival arrives in Lisbon. Due to a train strike, the kings and their entourage traveled by bus to Restauradores.
Mild weather and no rain
Weather forecasts for the Sunday and Tuesday of Carnival show favorable conditions for the Carnival Corso Parade. Partly cloudy is expected on Sunday afternoon with a maximum of 17 degrees in Lisbon, 18 degrees in Faro and 16 degrees in Porto, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere. A similar trend is observed for Fat Tuesday. And if it is warm with the sun in the afternoon, then at dawn the temperature in the northern interior and central regions is about two degrees. At a time when many people go on a mini-vacation, special attention should be paid to the frost on the road.
