Miguel Albuquerque negotiates a coup with Chega. The Madeira government needs Chega’s votes to approve the program as well as the regional budget.

The Madeira government, led by Miguel Albuquerque and Chega, will this Monday negotiate a possible understanding to make the Executive Program and the regional budget viable. With four deputies, Chega holds the key to an absolute majority, but the regional structure is simmering with political and personal tensions.

On election night, then-newly elected Magna Costa and Francisco Gomes, a member of the Assembly of the Republic and candidate for regional leadership of the party, got into a verbal dispute. Magna Costa’s husband, a policeman, did not like this and grabbed Francisco Gomez by the neck. Between the option of removing Albuquerque to remain loyal to the anti-corruption ideology and the achievements and failures of Chegi regional leader Miguel Castro, there is no internal consensus on voting for the government program.

In the PSD, supporters of Manuel Antonio, the losing candidate in internal elections, began collecting signatures for an extraordinary congress in October.
