Two men and a woman aged between 48 and 62 were injured on Wednesday afternoon in a collision between a truck and a car in Mealhada.
At around 18:30, the Mealhada firefighters were alerted to a traffic accident on the A1 motorway in the south/north direction, in the area where the parishes of Mealhada, Ventosa do Bairro and Antes meet. The truck eventually crossed the central median and stopped in the oncoming traffic lane. The Aveiro Velhos firefighters were also called to the scene.
Due to the accident, traffic on the highway was restricted for several hours in both directions, which led to the formation of multi-kilometer queues.
The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate’s traffic police unit has been mobilized and is investigating the cause of the incident.
The victims were taken to Aveiro Hospital.
