Socialists are further away from making the state budget viable

The IRC cut proposed by the government distances the PS from the adoption of the next state budget, warned this Friday Pedro Nuno Santos, the general secretary of the Socialists. “What the government has done in recent months is seriously distanced the PS,” said Pedro Nuno.

The Socialist considered the executive’s budget strategy “wrong” and unable to deliver the “necessary economic transformation” of the country into a “more complex and diversified economy.” And he criticized the government for “giving up a significant amount of revenue” in gradually reducing the IRC to 15% by 2027 in favor of “only a few very large companies.”

Despite its refusal to “include what is wrong”, the PS “does not leave itself out of the country’s problems”. Pedro Nuno thus did not completely deviate from the tone of a recent interview with RTP, in which the “virtually impossible” of ensuring the viability of the state budget for 2025 became “surmountable if the government does not ignore the largest opposition party”.
