In Algé, Figueiro dos Vinhos municipality, horses are helping to clear the land around the village. At first it was a couple, but today there are five of them in a project that wants to grow.
Four adult horses and a month-old foal graze on a plot of land where the grass is short, all the result of their labor. Despite the fences, there are open areas that allow the horses to roam around the village. The animals also have free access to the mountains surrounding Aldzhe.
“They wander everywhere, but they are used to it and do not leave here. They need parties and food,” he tells Luca Joaquim, who tries to call Trovão, the man of the group and one of the first two horses to arrive in the village in 2021. The horses “do not cause work”, coexistence with the inhabitants is “peaceful”. The result is visible: clean land, the project has animals that do not require special care.
