Maria Joana Raposo Marques Vidal was born almost a “child” of the year on December 31, 1955 in Coimbra, into a family that already had strong ties to the world of justice.
She was the eldest daughter of retired judge José Márquez Vidal, who was also the director of the SP, and the sister of the prosecutor in the Face Oculta case.
Respecting the family parchments, he began his higher education at the Classical Law School of Lisbon, where he lived in the midst of controversy and debate.
He began his career in public service with a preliminary internship in Penela, then in Coimbra, Vila Viçosa, Seixal and Cascais.
As a magistrate of the Cascais Public Prosecutor’s Office, she became the first president of the Cascais Commission for the Protection of Minors. He made his debut in the Cascais Commission, where he had previously overshadowed the Casa Pia pedophilia case.
Joana Marques Vidal was elected as a member of the Supreme Council of the Ministry of State and held this position for two years.
He served as President of the Board of APAV from January 2007 to October 2012.
In October 2012, she was appointed Attorney General of the Republic by the then President of the Republic, Aníbal Cavaco Silva. This is a historic choice, as no woman has ever held these roles.
Before Joana Marques Vidal, this position was held by 18 people.
She left the post in 2018, the same year that the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, awarded her the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Christ. He died on Tuesday at the age of 68 at the São João Hospital in Porto.
