A 24-year-old man has been arrested in the Northern Zone on serious charges of committing child pornography offences and sexual abuse of at least four children, the Judicial Police (PJ) said on Friday.
The SP statement, which did not specify the location of the arrest, said the investigation, which lasted about four months, began “with the flagging of files consistent with content of sexual abuse and exploitation of children, apparently created in national territory.”
According to PJ, “exhaustive research and analysis work has made it possible to identify content created by men through sexual violence committed against children in the family, and to date four victims have been identified.”
The Criminal Investigation Team stressed that “thanks to international police cooperation mechanisms” the authorities were able to identify the 24-year-old suspect.
“As part of the evidence collection efforts, namely the home search, it was possible to identify, locate and seize thousands of files on the computer equipment used by the detainee that were consistent in content with violence and sexual exploitation of minors,” reads the statement.
The SP also states that “a full clarification of the illegal activity, as well as the identification of other possible victims, will depend on additional investigative measures, which will be facilitated by the results of inspections of the seized equipment.”
The detainee will be present at the first judicial interrogation for the purpose of applying coercive measures.
The operation was carried out by the National Unit for Combating Cybercrime and Technological Crime of the Judicial Police.
