The PS National Political Commission meets this Monday afternoon at the Socialist headquarters, and its sole purpose is to analyse the political situation ahead of the State of the Nation debate.
Last week, the General Secretary of the Socialist Party convened this meeting of the Socialist Advisory Body during a break between the meetings of the National Commission, scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., in Largo do Rato, Lisbon.
There is only one item on the agenda: an analysis of the national political situation in a week that will be politically marked by the State of the Nation debate in Parliament.
The last meeting of this body took place on April 22, when the PS list for Europeans was approved, headed by former Health Minister Marta Temido, who won the elections on June 9.
On Thursday, Pedro Nuno Santos accused the government of “electoral thirst” by foregoing “billions of euros” in revenue that he said were fundamental to public services and would be spent on those who “need it least.”
Last week, the viability of the 2025 state budget sparked an exchange of accusations between Pedro Nuno Santos and Prime Minister Luis Montenegro.
Following the PS parliamentary days on Tuesday, the PS leader warned that anyone who thinks the PS will make decisions “based on pre-election calculations” or who is “afraid of elections” is mistaken, accusing the Prime Minister of making “an election threat” on a day when the Socialists had demonstrated their willingness to negotiate and make the state budget viable.
PSD President and Prime Minister Luis Montenegro said yesterday that if the PS is playing games over the budget negotiations, it has the courage to overthrow the government.
