Brazilian businessman Luis Marcelo Ormon was killed after eating a poisoned Brigadeiro cake in May this year. Six people, including the victim’s girlfriend and the mastermind behind the crime, have been charged with his death.
According to the Brazilian press, Luis was last seen on May 17 on CCTV cameras, where he and his girlfriend appeared in the elevator of the building where he lived in Rio de Janeiro. Three days later, after neighbors complained about a sickening smell coming from their apartment, specialists were called to the scene and found a body in an advanced stage of decomposition. Luis’s body was lying on a sofa next to several fans turned on to mask the smell. Apparently, Yulia spent three days in the apartment with the body, as she was seen in the building by a doorman on the 18th, 19th and 20th.
The police believe that Yulia Catermol Pimenta, the victim’s friend, added ground morphine to the dessert offered to her partner, which led to his death. To commit the crime, Yulia Catermol received instructions from Suyani Breshchak, a friend, who helped her measure out the dose of morphine that she should put in the brigadeiro cake. According to the investigation, Yulia owed her friend money and this was one of the motives for the crime. About 50 morphine tablets will be placed in the cake.
Julia Catermol and Suyany Breshchak were arrested on charges of triple murder. After the murder of their partner, Yulia and Suyani had disagreements. The messages exchanged between the friends were published by Brazilian media. On May 26, the Suyanis tried to hold Yulia accountable for the crime, absolving her of all responsibility. “You killed him and told me later. You did it alone, no one told you,” Suyani wrote.
In addition to these friends, police charged Leandro Cantanjeda and Victor Chaffin with embezzling Luis Marcelo’s assets, such as a car, two guns, computers, a cell phone, an air conditioner, 12 watches and other valuables, and attempting to trade them back. Leandro was Suyani’s boyfriend and Victor’s friend.
Giovanni Tavares Gonçalves and his nephew Michael Graça Soares were involved in this case, as they bought Vitor two weapons from the victim.
