A 50-year-old woman and her 21-year-old son were brutally attacked by three men after a brief exchange of useless gestures and words in the historic center of Santarém. The woman and the young man were walking when they were provoked by the attackers.
“Two people made an obscene gesture at us. My son responded in kind, with that teenage anger, but they got offended and followed us,” he says. CM the oldest victim. The two suspects, joined by a third, quickly turned violent. “They immediately started fighting. They punched and kicked me while I was underneath them, pretending to be a mother trying to protect her child. If other people hadn’t helped, they would have killed us,” he adds.
While trying to stop a fight, a bar employee in Largo do Seminario was hit on the head with a glass bottle and was taken to a Santarem hospital, as were his wife and son.
Three victims were left with bruises all over their bodies. The attackers fled after the arrival of PSP officers who are conducting an investigation.
