STCP strike registers 75% of participants this morning

The coordinator of the Northern Union of Urban Road Transport (STRUN), José Manuel Silva, told Lusa that participation in the strike this Monday at STCP is around 75%, with only a minimum level of service being provided.

“The total number of cars here in [estação de recolha da] “Through Norte and Francos, 370 buses were supposed to go: 210 here and 160 from Francos. At the moment, 103 people remain on both sides. So the turnout is 75%,” the union leader calculated.

José Manuel Silva spoke at the door of the waste collection station of the Sociedade de Transportes Coletivos do Porto (STCP) on Via Norte in São Mamede de Infesta (Matosinhos, Porto district), where he met with several dozen workers.

According to the coordinator of STRUN, the union that called for the strike, the figures recorded shortly before 9am meant that “only a minimum level of services were operating”.

Lusa asked STCP questions about the number of people taking part in the strike and is awaiting a response.

Jose Manuel Silva also stated that although the strike was only called by STRUN and the STCP has about five unions and non-union workers, the strike was general.

“The workers decided this at the plenary session. And the plenary session included workers from all trade unions, and today the workers from all trade unions are standing still,” he guaranteed.

STRUN refused to sign the management’s proposal to increase wages by 4.7%, asking for 8%.

“In January, the company gave 2% due to the minimum wage, because they exceeded the drivers’ jobs, and now it has applied another 2.7%, that is, 4.7%, although [aumentos nos] “The lowest salary is 53 euros,” he told Luce.

Jose Manuel Silva said he expected “virtually nothing” from the current STCP administration led by Cristina Pimentel, but “pointed the finger” in particular at Administrator Rui Saraiva.

“The administrator here is not even the president, it is the administrator Rui Saraiva, he is stubborn. This is the word that is spoken to him. He is the one who knows, he is the one who speaks, at meetings it is almost impossible to talk to him,” the coordinator of STRUN believes.

The union leader told Lusa that Rui Saraiva “wants to show shareholders and chambers that he can dominate workers with little money, but that’s not true because they always lose drivers.”

“If he continues his stubbornness, the workers are here to give new answers,” he guaranteed.

The coordinator of the STCP working committee, João Paulo Silva, recalled that “it is not only the drivers who are on strike”, but also “official, administrative workers”.

During the strike, some minimum services are guaranteed, covering day and night services as well as the entire network at dawn, STCP said on Friday.

During the daytime (from 06:00 to 21:00) lines 200, 201, 204, 205, 207, 208, 305, 500, 502, 600, 602, 700, 701, 702, 704, 801, 901/906, 903 and 907, and at night – 200, 204, 205, 305, 502, 600, 602, 700, 701, 702, 801, 901/906, 903 and 907.

In the morning service, all flights will be operated on lines 1M, 2M, 3M, 4M, 5M, 7M, 8M, 9M, 10M, 11M, 12M and 13M.
