Judge Anabela Cabral Ferreira will become Secretary General of the Assembly of the Republic.

The President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, will appoint Judge Anabela Cabral Ferreira as Secretary General of the Parliament, replacing Albino de Azevedo Soares.

The proposal for appointment was approved today by the Board of Directors of the Assembly of the Republic, and the inauguration of Anabela Cabral Ferreira is scheduled for September.

According to the law, the Secretary General of the Assembly of the Republic “directs and coordinates all parliamentary services, referring to the President of the Assembly of the Republic issues that do not fall within his competence.”

Anabela Cabral Ferreira, judge, graduated in Law from the University of Coimbra, has held the position of Inspector General of Internal Administration (IGAI) since July 2019.

Since 1990, she has worked as a judge, serving in the Administrative Court of Lisbon, the Cascais Judicial District and the Cascais Central Criminal Court. She has also served as coordinating judge for the Cascais Criminal, Central and Local Courts.

Among other positions, the new Secretary General of the Assembly of the Republic carried out training duties in the Republic of East Timor, in accordance with the protocol on judicial cooperation between Portugal and this member state of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP).

Albino de Azevedo Soares, 73, graduated in Law from the University of Coimbra, has served as Secretary General of the Assembly of the Republic since 2014, appointed by the then President of the Assembly of the Republic, Assunção Esteves.
