This Wednesday, Portuguese shooter Maria Ines Barros hopes to reach the Olympic pit final at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the day when the men’s triathlon will finally take place alongside the women’s.
In the distant town of Châteauroux, some 270 kilometres from Paris, the Penafidel native enters the final two rounds of the 25-distance event in eighth place, with 72 points, two places and one point from the final.
The first round of shooting will begin at 9:00 local time (8:00 Lisbon time), with the final scheduled for 15:30.
The men’s individual race, postponed the day before due to poor water quality in the Seine, will take place this Wednesday at 10:45 with Vasco Vilaza and Ricardo Batista after Melanie Santos and Maria Tomé competed in the women’s race.
The final qualifier in judo, youngster Tais Pina makes her Olympic debut, competing at 10am in the first round in the 70kg weight class against Italy’s Kim Polling.
Rita Ralan Duarte, who is based in Iran, will be the third dressage qualifier to compete in the individual and team heats, scheduled to start at 12:38 after Antonio do Vale in Fine Fellow and Maria Caetano in Hit. Plus has already competed.
Following the Tokyo 2020 final, Portugal currently ranks sixth in terms of number of teams.
Yolanda Hopkins’ entry into the women’s surfing last 16 is still open after it was postponed due to weather conditions in Teahupo’o, Tahiti, on Tuesday.
