Anal sex: how often should you do it, what precautions should you take, and what myths exist about this practice?

Recent research suggests that anal sex is on the rise among heterosexual couples, particularly in younger age groups. However, there is little information about the risks involved.

According to a Brazilian magazine ClaudiaDoing this daily increases the likelihood of developing anal fissures, a gateway for viruses and bacteria. Once you try this type of pleasure, you should give the anal mucosa a rest for two to three days before returning to work.

The concentration of nerve endings makes the anal area sensitive to injury. Even in the case of stable sexual partners, it is recommended to use condoms as a way to prevent the spread of bacteria and infections.

Lubricants

The best lubricants for anal sex are water-based lubricants that do not damage the condom. It is not recommended to use Vaseline or lubricants that cause a feeling of heat or cold, as they can cause irritation and allergic reactions in the anus.

Lube should be applied around the anus, as well as to condoms, dildos, and other sex toys. There are now lubricants available that are suitable for anal sex. They lubricate more and dry more slowly than regular lubricants. The longer they take to dry, the less likely they are to cause injury.

Caution to be taken

To relieve pain after anal sex, it is preferable to use a desensitizer rather than an anesthetic. While the former simply helps reduce discomfort, the latter suppresses pain. You will not feel pain if you hurt yourself or control your urge to defecate.

In addition to moisturizing the anal area, it is important to drink plenty of water. If there are traces of sperm inside, you must evacuate immediately, as the liquid can irritate the mucous membrane of the anus and intestines.

When cleaning the anus, avoid using very hot water or inserting inappropriate objects to avoid causing injury and thereby increasing the risk of infection.

Bleeding situations are almost always explained by a lack of lubrication. If the bleeding decreases and then stops, it is an anal fissure. If it does not stop, it is best to go to the emergency room.

Myths

Yes, the anus gets bigger during sex, but it is an elastic organ like the vagina and therefore returns to its normal size. This is just one of the myths surrounding this practice.

Contrary to popular belief, anal sex does not cause hemorrhoids. There are more common causes, including chronic constipation, overuse of laxatives or enemas, and excessive straining during bowel movements. But be careful: the risk of developing hemorrhoids does increase if the anus is not lubricated during anal sex.

This form of pleasure also does not harm the function of the intestines, except in extreme cases of rupture of the anal wall, which only occurs in cases of forced or too intense penetration.

Another myth is that it is impossible to achieve orgasm through anal sex alone. One of the five types of female orgasm is the anal orgasm, although in fact there is an advantage to combining anal stimulation with clitoral and vaginal stimulation.
