PS leader Pedro Nuno Santos said on Thursday that the party will welcome former Prime Minister António Costa to the Socialist Academy on August 28 as “one of the greatest” political entities.
Pedro Nuno Santos made a statement about the presence of António Costa at the meeting of young socialists that is taking place from August 28 to 31 in Tomar, as part of a visit to the medieval fair of Silves, and rejected the idea that the presence of the former prime minister would be a sign of reconciliation after António Costa was absent after the legislative election campaign.
“What should we reconcile? António Costa is one of the greatest figures of the PS, he was Prime Minister and I was a member of his government for seven years, I worked with him for seven years, I was with him from the very beginning in shaping a very important Government decision for the country in 2015 [Geringonça}, e portanto nós vamos recebê-lo na nossa Academia Socialista com muita saudade de o ter connosco, de ouvi-lo sobre a Europa e sobre o Mundo, sobre aquilo que ele entender partilhar connosco e com os jovens socialistas”, afirmou Pedro Nuno Santos.
O secretário-geral do PS também disse ser positiva a presença de Augusto Santos Silva, ex-presidente da Assembleia da República, no Fórum Socialismo, que marca a “rentrée” do Bloco de Esquerda, entre 30 de agosto e 01 de setembro, em Braga, e conta também com as participações do jornalista e ex-dirigente bloquista, Daniel Oliveira, e a eurodeputada e ex-ministra espanhola Irene Montero, entre outros.
Ao ser questionado se a presença de Augusto Santos Silva na iniciativa do Bloco não causava estranheza, Pedro Nuno Santos respondeu “nenhuma”.
“Nós, ao longo dos anos, temos tido a capacidade de dialogar com os outros partidos, nomeadamente com os partidos à esquerda, com quem aliás estivemos a trabalhar durante vários anos no Governo”, recordou, referindo-se aos anos em que o PS fez acordos com o PCP e com o BE para viabilizar o Governo, entre 2015 e 2019.
O secretário-geral socialista considerou, por isso, que “ver um alto dirigente do PS, ex-presidente da AR, a participar numa iniciativa do BE”, é vista com “toda a naturalidade”.
“E achamos mesmo importante que os diferentes partidos em Portugal, nomeadamente os diferentes partidos à esquerda, continuem a dialogar e a participar nas iniciativas dos outros”, afirmou.
