Madeira with above normal average temperatures in July.

In Madeira, average temperatures were above normal in July, the Regional Statistics Office reported this Friday, highlighting that the Lugar de Baixo station recorded 29 days of maximum temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius.

In its statement, the Regional Statistics Office (DREM) stressed that, compared to normal temperatures in July, “all the stations for which this information could be provided (seven stations) showed higher values, highlighting Chau do Areiro with a deviation of +3.6°C from the norm.

The highest average temperature was recorded at the Lugar de Baixo station (24.1°C) in the municipality of Ponta do Sol, west of Madeira Island, and the lowest average temperature was recorded at the Santo da Serra station (18°C) in the upper areas of the municipality of Santa Cruz.

“As for the absolute maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in July, the maximum extreme of 31.4°C was recorded at the Pico Alto station,” DREM reported, adding that “the minimum extreme was recorded at the Pico do Areiro station (6.6°C, 2nd).”

The regional authorities also stress that the Lugar de Baixo weather station has recorded “29 days with maximum temperatures above 25°C, while the normal value for this station is 14.9 days.”

In terms of precipitation, the highest value of precipitation in July was observed in Santana (48.4 millimetres), but it was the municipality of San Vicente that had the highest daily precipitation value, 19.9 millimetres.

On the other hand, DREM indicates that monthly average relative humidity values ​​ranged from 44% in Pico do Areiro to 95% in Santo da Serra.

“The minimum daily value of relative air humidity (3%) was recorded at the Pico do Areiro station on the 5th and 13th, and the maximum value (100%) was reached at seven stations on different days of the month,” the report says, as mentioned in the note.

As for the wind, the Ponta de São Lourenço station, located in the extreme east of Madeira Island, recorded the highest average intensity (20.2 km/h), while the Monte station in Funchal recorded the lowest average intensity (3.2 km/h).

The number of hours of sunshine detected in July was 266.9 at the Santa Catarina/Airport station and 177.9 at the Funchal observatory, “while the normal value for this month at the latter station is 220.5.”

The average sea temperature measured at Mole da Pontinha in Funchal was 22.8°C, 1.2°C above the normal value for the month, DREM said, noting that “the average temperature was highest on days 27 and 28 (24.1°C) and lowest (21.6°C) on the first day.”
