PSD wants to hear from education and labor ministers about special educational needs

This Friday, PSD asked to be heard by the Minister of Education and the Minister of Labor on the “blatant non-investment and non-compliance” in supervising children with special educational needs, especially due to a lack of human resources.

The statement, signed by the head of the vice-president of the parliamentary group, Clara Marques Mendez, argues that the gap between the diploma, which establishes the principles and norms that guarantee inclusion in school, and “the reality of its application is huge.”

PSD notes that there have been “high-profile cases of exclusion, such as the cases of aggression against autistic children recently condemned by the Movement for Effective Inclusion.”

“Children and young people with special educational needs were the ones who faced the challenge of learning during the pandemic,” PSD laments.

For the Social Democrats, there has been a “clear reduction in investment and failure to properly supervise children with special educational needs, especially with regard to the lack of human resources”.

“The inclusive education strategy has been compromised, causing serious damage to the lives of these students and their families,” they criticize.

PSD justifies the request for a joint hearing between the Commission for Education and Science and the Commission for Labour, Social Security and Integration of the Minister of Education João Costa and the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security Ana Méndez Godinho “Given the seriousness of the situation, the failures of the inclusive education strategy, the lack of human resources, damaging both the education of children and families.”

On Thursday, IL President Rui Rocha already announced that his party would request hearings from the Minister of Education and Secretary of State for Integration over what he called a “rejection” in schools for children with educational needs. needs that need to be addressed.

Accompanied by deputies Carla Castro and Patricia Gilwaz, Rui Rocha made the announcement after visiting a school in Oeiras, home to the Movement for Effective Inclusion, made up of parents and guardians of children with special educational needs, who denounced cases of discrimination and learning disabilities. .
