Wind is hampering takeoffs and landings at Cristiano Ronaldo’s Madeira International Airport this Saturday evening, the ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal page reports.
According to the information provided, two flights were cancelled at 19:50: one Eurowings flight from Dusseldorf and the other Ryanair flight from Porto.
Two other planes, one from TAP, flying from Lisbon, and one from Entre Air, flying from Katowice, Poland, were forced to divert to other airports.
Traffic at Madeira Island Airport continued as normal until approximately 18:30.
Forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) indicate “light to moderate winds from the north-northeast, blowing at speeds up to 45 kilometers per hour, especially in the highlands and in the extreme east and west of the island of Madeira,” a meteorological situation that will persist in the coming days.
IPMA has also placed all regions on the island of Madeira under orange alert, while Porto Santo is under yellow alert.
A yellow warning, the least serious of the three, is issued by IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation, while an orange warning (level two) is issued when a moderate risk meteorological situation is too high.
