The increase in risk allowance for security forces will be paid between the August and September salaries, Interior Minister Margarida Blasco announced today, retroactive to July.
In an explanation to journalists after the inauguration of the new commander of the Special Police Unit, Pedro Teles, at the National Headquarters of the PSP in Lisbon, the Minister said that the diploma increasing the allowance for members of the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Republican Guard (GNR) will be approved at a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday, after which it will be made public by the President of the Republic.
An agreement between the Ministry of the Interior (MAI) and five PSP unions and GNR associations to gradually increase the supplement by 300 euros was reached on 9 July.
In addition to the increase of 300 euros, an increase in the fixed option of the fixed allowance from the current 100 to 400 euros, the signed agreement also provides for a review of the professional status, changes in the remuneration table in 2025 and in the Regulation on the assessment of the review of remuneration tables and through green in health.
This €300 bonus will be paid in three installments: €200 this year and the remainder at the beginning of 2025 and 2026, increasing by €50 each year, in addition to maintaining a variable component of 20% of the base salary.
The risk and service allowance in the security forces consists of a variable part of 20% of the basic salary and a fixed part, which will increase from 100 euros to 400 euros.
The Minister also reiterated the desire to “do more and do better” not only in the development of security personnel, but also in the retraining of structures and equipment, planning to present a plan “by the end of the year” based on the use of the Security Forces Programming Act and the Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PRR).
“We are re-evaluating the entire police system to adapt police stations and commands to the new realities of the country. The national leadership of the PSP is making efforts and will soon present (a proposal for) retraining at the facilities. In addition to reorganization and retraining, we have large investments in equipment, with local authorities, in more surveillance cameras,” he noted.
Asked whether the reorganization of the security forces structure could lead to the closure of PSP police stations or GNR commands, Margarida Blasco ruled out such a scenario: “No population will be left without PSP police stations or GNR posts; this reorganization will take into account the security of every citizen. No one will be left without police and armed forces.”
