The emergency supplement that will be paid in October to Portuguese with lower pensions will not be taken into account for the purposes of the Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly (CSI), the government clarified this Thursday.
“The emergency supplement does not count for the purposes of the Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly,” the Council of Ministers said in a statement on Thursday.
CSI is a support paid monthly to low-income older people, aged equal to or above the normal age for access to an old-age pension under the general social security regime.
The government approved this Thursday in the Council of Ministers an extraordinary supplement for pensioners with lower pensions, the estimated cost of which is around 422 million euros.
For those with a pension of 509.26 euros, the benefit will be 200 euros. Pensioners with a pension from 509.27 to 1018.52 euros will receive an increase of 150 euros, and pensioners receiving from 11018.52 to 1527.78 euros will receive an additional 100 euros.
The supplement is paid “together with the pensions for October 2024” and will apply to “social security pensioners, Caixa Geral de Aposentações (CGA) and the banking sector, who receive an amount equal to or less than three times the Social Support Index (PSV) in force”, the executive director notes.
Lawyers and retired solicitors registered with the Lawyers and Solicitors Pension Fund (CPAS) are not eligible for this emergency allowance as they are outside the public system.
It should be noted that this is a per-pensioner allowance, not a per-pension allowance, so anyone receiving multiple pensions will see these amounts added together to determine whether they are eligible.
