The Portalegre Court sentenced four defendants to terms ranging from 1 year and 8 months to 10 years in prison for committing various frauds using the MB Way mobile application. In total, according to the court, the convicts seized more than 45,000 euros from the victims.
Evidence was found of the convictions of four defendants for crimes related to computer and communication fraud, forgery of cards or other payment devices, and computer forgery and illegal access between December 28, 2019 and January 11, 2022.
Defendants saw an ad on the OLX website and contacted advertisers who wanted to sell products. They insisted on paying through the MB Way application. The victims were then persuaded to add their ATM phone contacts to the bank account of the scammers, who were thus able to carry out the scam.
