Suspected of having stabbed his former partner Carla Diaz to death in Gondomar, learned this Thursday that a mandatory measure of pre-trial detention was issued after a Porto Criminal Court judge heard it.
The 43-year-old victim was killed this Wednesday at the site where the woman worked as a cleaning lady. The aggressor and the victim were in the process of a contentious divorce and lived separately for some time.
The suspect wore an electronic bracelet (Carla Diaz had a panic button) after a domestic violence lawsuit and never agreed to a divorce. The man fled the scene but eventually turned himself in in the late morning at the PSP police station in Gaia.
At around 09:30 am, the ambulance and resuscitation team was alerted for a stab wound at a commercial establishment on Rua dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra. Carla Diaz went into cardiac arrest and was still undergoing resuscitation. However, the victim could not bear the severity of the injuries and death was confirmed at the scene by the VMER team.
The suspect was detained by Gaia PSP and handed over to the judicial police of Porto. After an investigation by the scientific police, the San Pedro da Cova firemen took the woman’s body to the forensic institute in Porto for an autopsy. Carla Diaz is survived by an 11-year-old daughter.
