The Lisbon Children’s and Youth Film Festival kicks off today.

The Tó Trips film concert, dedicated to the poet Cecilia Meireles, and more than a hundred films, including The Ice Traders, are included in the Lisbon International Film Festival for Children and Youth, starting this Saturday.

The Play Festival celebrates its tenth edition with the opening of the film “Águas do Pastaza” by Inés T. Alves, filmed in the rainforests of Ecuador near the Pastaza River, where the director accompanied and recorded the daily lives of children from the Suva community.

Divided between Cinema São Jorge and Cinemateca Junior, this year’s festival aims to “promote the production of children’s films in Portugal” by raising awareness of the “importance of educating viewers,” the organization said in a statement.

The program, which is divided by audience age, also includes other Portuguese films such as Monica Santos’ The Pink Jacket, a film about Estado Novo starring only clothes, and Laura Gonçalves’ O Homem do Lixo. and The Ice Traders by Joao Gonzalez, an Oscar nominee.

As “Play’s audience has grown, as has the festival itself,” a section dedicated to viewers over 13 was created this year.

Play will also remember the Brazilian poet Cecilia Meireles, there will be workshops for children, book sales and a film concert by guitarist To Trips, who will provide live music for four 1920s Walt Disney films called Alice’s Comedies.
