Infrastructure Minister Joao Galamba evaded a €14,500 value-added tax on a house he sold for twice as much as he bought six months ago.
The transaction dates back to 2007, but only in 2017 the process ended with the decision of the arbitration court. João Galamba stated that he claimed the added value in question on another property for his own and permanent residence on a 2007 IRS delivery.
However, without any confirmation of the facts The Internal Revenue Service (AT) has notified the current Minister of Infrastructure to confirm whether he is even eligible for tax credits and tax exemptions.
João Galamba had to pay about 14,500 euros because the submitted documents were not considered sufficient. The case was referred to the arbitration court on the complaint of the Minister of Infrastructure. Joao Galamba presented two witnesses, a gas bill and an electricity declaration, to prove that it was his house, but they had no effect.
The Minister of Infrastructure lost the decision in the arbitration court, backed up by the information that Joao Galamba stated in the documents that he lived at a different address on the date of the sale of the house. This room was the same where his tax address was registered with the tax authority for about four months.
