The proposal presented by the independent movement “Rui Moreira: Aqui Há Porto” at the meeting of the municipal assembly held on Monday evening was adopted point by point, and all of them were approved by a majority vote.
Elected Raul Almeida of the independent movement emphasized that the movement aims to call on the government to act in the face of the “drama” experienced in the city in connection with drug trafficking and consumption, trying to find a “humanistic solution”. which allows you to calm the society” and avoid creating a “social split”.
“We want peace in the city. We want the public space to be accessible to everyone, and who has the competence in the field of health and internal management, to act in accordance with these plans,” he stressed.
In the proposal, to which Lusa had access, the independent movement called on the government to “act quickly and effectively” in the fight against drug trafficking, using the means and police forces at its disposal for the “urgent situation.” and exception.

In addition to the independent movement, PAN has also submitted a proposal on this issue to encourage public discussion about substance use by listening to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that work with drug addicts.
“Porto should be proud of the commitment of these organizations to the work they are doing,” remarked the only PAN MP, Paulo Vieira de Castro, citing the example of running an auxiliary consumption room and advocating that these organizations “provide data on the real current situation and its proposals.”
The PAN proposal was defeated by a vote against the elected representatives of the independent movement and the SDP, an abstention by one elected member of the independent movement and Chega, and a positive vote by the PS, CDU and BE.
