This Friday, the President of the Parliament denied the organization with the President of the Republic of the participation of the head of the Brazilian state, Lula da Silva, in a solemn meeting on April 25.
Augusto Santos Silva was answering a question from Chega’s leader and deputy, Andre Ventura, about whether he had organized “in absentia” the official meeting on April 25 with the participation of Lula da Silva.
“I would like to know if the President is ready to give this explanation, does he confirm that he was negotiating with the President of the Republic to bring the President of Brazil to Portugal so that he could participate in the meeting on April 25 and if he did this without Parliament? (…) If you would like to give such an explanation, we would be very grateful to you,” Ventura asked before the agenda of the plenary session.
“The answer is simple: no,” replied Augusto Santos Silva.
On Wednesday, Santos Silva announced that the Assembly of the Republic would organize a formal welcoming session for Brazilian President Lula da Silva after the foreign minister announced that the Brazilian head of state would address the April 25 commemorative session.
Santos Silva also indicated that details, such as the date of the welcoming session where Lula da Silva will speak, have not yet been set.
André Ventura took advantage of the news, published in Friday’s edition of the Nascer do Sol newspaper, according to which Augusto Santos Silva, together with the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, organized the participation of the head of state of Brazil, Luis Inacio. Lula da Silva at the April 25 celebration.
According to the newspaper, Santos Silva could have forgotten to bring the matter to the leaders’ conference.
