Sexual pleasure is a topic that is gaining more and more attention and recognition in society. If earlier it was something that people felt the need to hide, now this topic has become more open. Preliminary data from a recent study showed that seven out of ten people in Portugal masturbate.
The data showed that the majority of people prefer weekly sexual practice alone (about 50%), in contrast to those who do it daily (about 18%) and those who say they have never masturbated (0.9%).
The Museu Pedagógico do Sexo (MUSEX), in partnership with “O Gerador” and with a Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Sexology from the University of Luzofon and the Portuguese Society of Clinical Sexology, conducted an online study aimed at obtaining a more comprehensive and diverse view of pleasure. sexual. At the moment, 1,624 people aged 17 to 83 have taken part in the survey.
Masturbation: self-knowledge of the body
It has already been scientifically proven that masturbation, the sexual practice alone, allows a person to truly understand what gives him pleasure, which tends to vary from person to person. It is about “exploring and self-knowledge of the body in an efficient and free way, without pressure or focus,” read the study.
Masturbation may include touching sex toys. Watching erotic films often ends with this practice (80%).
Sex with another person is still the preferred sexual practice of the Portuguese.
As far as the investigation was able to find out, despite the fact that 65% of those surveyed masturbate, sexual activity with a partner continues to be a favorite of the Portuguese. “On average, people experience less pleasure from masturbation (74% pleasure) than from sexual activity with another person (83% pleasure,” the data elaborates.
In terms of sexual communication, 78% of people surveyed say they communicate with their partner about what they like or dislike doing during intercourse. This fact may be closely related to the self-knowledge of the body.
Despite all the benefits associated with personal sexual satisfaction, there are features that make some people give up this practice. Something that the study denounces as feelings of frustration, sadness, and loneliness.
“Masturbation in itself for sexual pleasure also causes frustration and sadness for some people, or because it is a moment when dissatisfaction caused by the current sex life is signaled (loneliness, lack of partner / s, sexual relations with other people that are unpleasant ) or why they materialize in guilt-experienced contexts, such as invoking thoughts (imagining scenarios with people other than the person you are in a monogamous relationship with) or practices in which a person lives with guilt (for example, with using pornography),” it says.
Other variables included in the investigation were sexting (messages of sexual content), cybersex, group sex, sex with fetishism, and others.
The survey is still available on the site.
